    Description

    Vintage 1939 Amoco road map booklet and guide to the major through roads between Maine and Florida, printed more than 81 years ago.
    The booklet measures 7½" x 7" and 20 pages.
    Cartography is by Rand McNally.
    The major highways depicted include U.S. Routes 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 11, 15, 17, 20, 22, 41, and 46.
    The states covered by the maps include Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
    The booklet is titled
    Amoco Streamlined Strip Map from Maine to Florida with Connecting Routes.
    It was published in 1939 by the American Oil Company to promote its Amoco brand. It is dated by the code number in the lower margin on Page 3: U.3512.
    The artwork on the front cover is by Norman Rockwell and includes the slogans "Go the Amoco Way" and "This is the place, Mister!"
    Rockwell illustrated a number of Amoco promotions in the late 1930s, including ink blotters, posters, print ads, corporate publications, and this handsome Maine to Florida road map.
